Youth Speaker has an Attitude of Gratitude

Ada Junior High School Assembly

One thing that Jeff hates is having to leave his family and home life on Sunday’s.  There was nothing Jeff could do this week, because on Monday he committed to spending two days with the Illinois Farm Bureau and Illinois FFA Youth Conferences.

So, on Sunday while at a wedding, Jeff had to leave early to catch his flight.  Off to St. Louis where he’d drive an hour and a half to speak for the next two days.  The conference was awesome and Jeff was truly honored to have been their keynote speaker.

On Tuesday, as Jeff traveled back to the airport the troubles started and the rest of the week was a result of this one day.  At the airport the tornado’s came into Dallas, Texas where Jeff had to fly into.  As he watched on the CNN news channel at the airport, Jeff realized his flight was going.  What to do?

Jeff isn’t a frequent traveler with American Airlines and American Airlines was the airline Jeff was using.  Jeff knew what this meant – Get in a rental car and drive.  But, Jeff had a nine hour drive and it was 5 pm in the evening.

One thing about Jeff is that when a teen audience hires him to speak, Jeff does whatever it takes to be there.  At 5pm, Jeff got himself a rental car and drove the nine hours form St. Louis to Ada, Oklahoma.

The following morning at 9am, Jeff arrived Ada Junior High School to what he calls a celebrity reception.  The school, staff, administrators, and students were amazing.  Jeff spent the day and had a day he will always remember.  Then, he had another eight hours of a drive to Austin, Texas where he’d be speaking at a student council event.

Jeff said, “You gotta do whatcha gotta do!”  In the car and arrival Austin, Texas at 9:30 pm and up early for Leander Student Council Conference.

On Friday, after a week on the road and a lot of driving, Jeff realized he was fortunate to be heading home but thankful again for the great opportunities to speak to these teens.

Although this week was eventful when it comes to travel, Jeff was glad he made it to each speaking engagement and prayed to the victims of Dallas, Texas that they were safe.  Jeff had to drive long hours and a lot of miles, but in the end, people in Texas had it so much worse.

Jeff lives every day being grateful for the little things in his life.  He is grateful that his talks were all awesome and that each drive was worth the reception he received he received from the schools and the clients that hired him.
