Make Lifestyle Changes, Not Temporary Changes

Yesterday marked the third week since youth motivational speaker, Jeff Yalden, was diagnosed with diabetes, and he has been working extremely hard to cut off the pounds and live a healthier life.  He has lost an impressive total of 15 pounds and is on the path to defeating diabetes.  Jeff is privileged to share his journey with everyone reading this and hopes that if any of you are currently facing a health issue like diabetes that his journey may inspire you to turn your life around.

If you are trying to lose weight fast, do not become discouraged if it takes longer than you expect.  As Jeff states in the video above, “this is a lifestyle change.”  It is not simply about reaching the final destination; it is about living healthy every day.  You cannot lose weight overnight.

To lose weight, Jeff has combined several methods, and the results have been great. Every single day, he has been working out with his P90X DVDs.  He loves the philosophy that is expressed in them: “Just do the best you can and forget the rest.  Just push play and do the best you can.”  To become fit and healthy, you do not have to be the fastest runner or the strongest person in your class; you simply have to have the determination to work hard, and the rewards will follow.

However, simply exercising is not enough to live a healthy lifestyle.  To maximize your health, you must change your diet as much as your activities.  Jeff has begun to record his eating and sets a target between 2,000 and 2,500 calories per day.  He wants to be even more disciplined than he is now, but he is already going in the right direction.

These days, people are laying on the couch or sitting at their computer much more than they are walking or engaging in physical activity.  Jeff has acknowledged that to live a healthier lifestyle, he must be on his feet as much as possible.  He currently walks around 20 miles every week.  While you may not have the time to walk three miles a day, you do not have to take a huge step to change your lifestyle.  Gradual steps allow you to set a plan that you are much more likely to follow.  As Jeff states in the video above, start small. Begin by walking to your mailbox.  The next day, you can walk through your neighborhood.  If your success persists, move on to a mile a day and so on.  Before you know it, you’re going to start feeling awesome.

Jeff’s health has already began to turn around in only three weeks.  His blood glucose level was a frightening level of 240, but now it is a much healthier level of 84.  He has managed to achieve this and his weight loss with no medication whatsoever.  All of his health improvements have been direct effects of his activities.  He has finally made time for himself and his health, which he proclaims as the greatest thing that has changed in his life since being diagnosed with diabetes.

Now is the time to make changes in your health.  Whether you’re in your teenage years or over-the-hill, change your lifestyle today before it is too late.  If you fail to do so, you may live with many difficulties as you age.  Jeff hopes that he inspires you to live the best life you can.  Over the past three weeks, Jeff has done much more than lose 15 pounds; he has set a concrete lifestyle that has managed to take inches off his waist already.  As stated in the title above, “let’s all make lifestyle changes, not temporary changes.”

If you see Jeff over the next few days, be sure to congratulate him for all of the lifestyle changes that he has managed to make.  Also, if you are currently suffering from obesity or other weight-related health issues, give Jeff a buzz on his Facebook page or join him on Team Beachbody.  Jeff hopes that his lifestyle changes have inspired you to take action and live a healthier life.

“I want to put a ding in the universe.” Brandon Schmuck is a senior class president at Rockwood Area High School. He is an ambitious teen with a dream: to change the world. He plans on majoring in electrical and computer engineering and gaining a background in speaking, writing, business, and the arts. He dreams of becoming an influential business leader and changing the lives of millions through his words and products. He is inspired by his parents and his two younger sisters to be all that he can. In his spare time, he enjoys playing guitar as part of his high school’s jazz band and hitting up the greens during the summer. He loves to write and express his opinion and is an active member of student congress, speech, and Future Business Leaders of America. Online, he has an active presence as a teen blogger for youth motivational speaker, Jeff Yalden, and operates his own personal blog. He enjoys having an impact on those around him and is a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, SADD, and Spanish Honor Society, where he helps at local food drives and school events. Brandon was first inspired by Jeff’s words at Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week, where he heard him as a guest speaker. After hearing him, he knew that he had to bring him to his area. Despite the small size of his school, Brandon managed to gather the funding to bring him, while arranging for a neighboring school to come hear him also. Jeff’s words had an enormous impact on his school; students there were inspired to live their lives to the fullest and make the right decisions. Every day as he walks through the halls, he sees the impact that Jeff’s visit had on the students, as many of them continue to carry his messages with them by wearing his t-shirts. Prior to Jeff’s visit, Brandon published an article on his personal blog and his school’s website, describing what he had heard during Jeff’s speech at PFEW and how he managed to raise the funding for his visit. After reading it, Jeff hired Brandon as a teen blogger. Brandon admires the impact that Jeff has on others and hopes to someday carry the same impact himself.
