East Leyden High School has a very beautiful, diverse student population. There were approximately 1,750 students who were divided into two separate assemblies. The students were all extremely friendly and respectful.

Jeff had been invited to speak at both East Leyden and West Leyden High Schools during “Safe Celebration” week. After an incredible visit at West Leyden the day before, Jeff approached the day thinking that if it could go even half as well at East Leyden, his visit would be a success. The objective of the week was to “help students make positive, thoughtful choices for themselves, their futures and how they treat others”. In sharing his message, “About Life”, Jeff helped the students realize that if they “Take Time To Think” they can create better futures for themselves.

As an audience, the students were all awesome and engaging. Jeff really enjoyed both assemblies and he truly connected with the students.

During lunchtime, we set up a table in the cafeteria where Jeff visited with students and sold his t-shirts, books and posters.

National Guard recruiters were also set up in the cafeteria. They challenged several boys to a push-up competition. A couple of the guys were able to do more than 75 push-ups, which was very impressive. Jeff gave each of those teens a free copy of his book, “Your Life Matters“.

That afternoon, Jeff held a Leadership Workshop for student leaders. He had over an hour and a half with this group and he shared several stories with them which he considers to have been defining moments in his life.

In addition, he challenged the students with a team building exercise. The freshmen and seniors competed against the sophomores and juniors.

In the end, both teams won and Jeff gave them each a “Take Time To Think” bracelet.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the East Leyden High School. The students and faculty were incredibly welcoming. We hope the students will continue to chase their dreams and will believe in their infinite potential.

Always remember:

“Work for a cause, not for applause.

Live life to express, not to impress.

Don’t strive to make your presence noticed,

Just make your absence felt.”
