On January 23rd, 2013, my assistant Kaylene and I flew to Phoenix, Arizona and traveled to the wonderful town of Williams. One of my dreams has always been to ride my Harley on historic Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. It was really exciting to spend some time in such a beautiful part of the country.

I had been invited to Williams by Superintendent Rachel Savage and would be sharing my message with students from both the middle and high schools. The principals from both schools, Mr. Lords and Mr. Heisley were both incredibly friendly and welcoming.

On the morning of January 24th, the students in grades 6-12 assembled into the gymnasium at Williams High School. They filled every spot on the bleachers on one side of the gym and were so attentive. Kaylene and I were so impressed with how well behaved and respectful they all were. You could have heard a pin drop as I shared my message for an hour and a half.  As a Youth Motivational Speaker, I know that it’s not easy for students to sit quietly on bleachers for such a long period of time. I truly appreciated their attention and we really connected.

That afternoon approximately 30 Student Council members gathered together for a Leadership Workshop. I had mentioned to a student earlier in the assembly that I really liked his cool red framed sunglasses. I was so touched when his friend Andrew brought those glasses to the workshop and told me that Hunter wanted me to have them.

That evening some parents joined us for the Parent Program where we talked about the “3 R’s” – Respect, Responsibility and Relationships.

After the program, Kaylene and I headed to Flagstaff to watch the Varsity boys basketball game. While they didn’t win, it was the Williams High School cheering section that left a lasting impression on us. In fact, a faculty member from the opposing team came over after the game and told the group that they were the best, most supportive fans he had ever seen. Despite the fact that their team was getting outplayed, they kept chanting, “we are proud of you” the entire game. Awesome!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Williams, Arizona. The following day we took in some of the incredible scenery with a visit to the Grand Canyon. Many thanks again to Ms. Savage, Mr. Heisley, Mr. Lords and the entire Williams community for making us feel so welcome.
